Causes of Traffic Accidents from the Perspective of Students

Road traffic accidents are a routine phenomenon that occurs in any country in the world. Thousands of people in the world lose their lives every day in such accidents, while thousands of others remain with disabilities or emotional wounds throughout their lives. A considerable part of these persons are children and young people of different ages (World Health Organization, 2007).

Educating and raising awareness of children and young people effectively and consistently with regard to their street risks and responsibilities as participants in trafficking is undoubtedly an important part of their development, so we all need to work together to help children and young people understand and manage the danger on the road.

The Academy of Applied Technical Sciences “Tempulli” and the Kosovo Motorcycle Association “AMRKS” in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the support from the Kosovo Road Safety Forum this year organized the fifth edition of the School Magazine “Road Safety “.

Unlike the previous four years where the activity was focused only on primary and lower secondary schools, this year the activity in question was extended to high schools from different municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo. The selection of schools as well as for previous years has been done by MEST.

The formula for the implementation of this edition was the same as in the previous years: theoretical part (pupils testing in schools) and practical part (bicycle race).

The data derived from the theoretical evaluation of pupils in schools reflect at the same time the results of the research “Causes of accidents from a pupil’s point of view”.

Participants in this research were 3691 pupils in grades 11 and 12, out of 23 Secondary high schools, from ten municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo: Gjakova, Gjilan, Drenas, Junik, Klina, Peja, Podujeva, Prishtina, Prizren, Viti.
